Mr. Derrick has over 25 years of experience in the aviation industry, serving in all facets of operations in both general aviation and air carrier service.  As Director of Operational Support at PAI Consulting, he uses his regulatory skills and operational aviation knowledge to assist on projects for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other clients.  Mr. Derrick provides support to Government and industry clients, develops reports in support of working groups executing regulatory and Government-mandated efforts, and analyzes and drafts prospective regulations.

Mr. Derrick’s major projects at PAI have included performing corporate flight department reviews and compliance reviews, and providing implementation support for the International Standard for the Business Aircraft Operations (IS–BAO) code of best practices.  For the Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing (ASIAS) program, he was directly involved in analyses and studies of aviation technical and operational issues, and advised on methods to improve work processes, procedures, resources, management controls, and information systems, and documentation.  He has conducted and served as part of a subject matter expert panel on aviation safety analytical studies, and performed senior reviews of aviation safety analytical study reports before final adoption.  Mr. Derrick provides comprehensive planning services for ASIAS working groups, committees, and conferences, including serving as an onsite focal and session facilitator at the twice-yearly Aviation Safety InfoShare conference.  Mr. Derrick also performs similar duties for ASIAS at a variety of smaller meetings, including safety working groups, aviation rulemaking committees, and regional and national aviation industry conferences.

Mr. Derrick has worked in general aviation and air carrier operations under Title 14, Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) parts 91, 121, and 135.  He also has provided all levels of flight instruction under 14 CFR part 61.  Mr. Derrick has served as a pilot for Atlantic Southeast Airlines (Delta Connection) and United Airlines.  During an airline furlough, Mr. Derrick worked for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as an Aviation Security Specialist in the Office of General Aviation Security Policy.  He soon transitioned to the Airline Security group under the Office of Transportation Security Policy, and ultimately became a Supervisory Transportation Security Specialist in the Airline Security Policy group of the Airlines Office in Transportation Sector Network Management.  Mr. Derrick assisted with policy development and interpretation, drafted regulations, and supported rulemaking teams in developing notices of proposed rulemaking and interim final rules.  Mr. Derrick also served as a policy adviser for and led several key rulemakings at TSA.
